The four-day event highlighted Canada's value propositions for foreign direct investment in sectors including mining exploration, digital media, life sciences, and renewable energy. The Business Centre at the Canada Pavilion has been the venue for close to one hundred events designed to foster collaboration, trade, and partnerships between Canadian organizations and their Chinese counterparts.
October 18, 2010 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Rob Moore, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism), welcomes the 5,800,000th visitor, Xiao Xi Zhi, to the Canada Pavilion at Expo 2010 in Shanghai. Canada exceeded its attendance goal two weeks before the end of the exposition. Minister Moore was in Shanghai as part of Canada's first national tourism mission to China. September 11, 2010 - Gregor Robertson, Mayor of Vancouver, speaks at an evening reception at the Canada Pavilion. The event closed the three-day Vancouver Economic Development Commission (VEDC) "Green Capital Trade Mission" to Shanghai. Mayor Gregor Robertson, Vancouver's chief spokesman on green capital messaging, was accompanied by over 20 Vancouver businesses from sectors including clean tech, green buildings, and digital media/film sectors. Mr. Rick Hansen began his historic journey in Vancouver 25 years ago to raise awareness of the potential of people with disabilities. His world tour visited 34 countries and included a trek on the Great Wall of China. In 1988, Mr. Hansen served as Commissioner General of the Canada Pavilion at Expo 1988 in Brisbane, Australia. September 6, 2010 - Canada Pavilion Hosting Staff member, Gabriel Hughes Andre Ouellet, receives the "Smiling Star" award from the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination. The "Smiling Star" is awarded on a monthly basis by Expo 2010 Shanghai to a hosting staff member of Expo 2010 pavilions. This is the second time a Canada Pavilion hosting staff has won the award. Jessie Cowen, originally from Ottawa, Ontario, earned the award for the month of July.

August 31, 2010 - Movie Night at the Canada Pavilion. Expo visitors gathered in the courtyard of the Canada Pavilion for a special showing of short films from Canada's cultural program. The media arts component of our cultural program represents some of Canada's best filmmakers from coast to coast, covering a variety of subjects that highlight the creativity of Canadian imagination. Some of the featured shorts are international award-winning films as well as the work of new, emerging filmmakers. The films, both animation and live-action, give viewers insight into Canadian life as seen by Canadians.

August 26, 2010 - QNX Software Systems, headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario, showcases its industry-leading technology at the Canada Pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai. Founded in 1980 and with a distribution network of more than 100 countries, QNX software is used in more than 200 vehicle models. The company held a two day education symposium and automotive summit at the Canada Pavilion Power Corporation Conference Centre from August 25 to August 26. In April 2010, Research in Motion, maker of the Blackberry and Official Partner of the Canada Pavilion, acquired QNX Software Systems.
August 22, 2010 - The internationally-acclaimed British Columbia Boys Choir (BCBC) performs in the courtyard of the Canada Pavilion at Expo 2010 Shanghai. Their visit to Expo, which comes in the middle of a successful international tour, also featured a surprise courtesy performance at the Czech Republic Pavilion. August 18, 2010 - Wayne Murphy, Executive Chef, Canada Pavilion, showcases Canadian Canola Oil at a cooking demonstration at the Canada Pavilion Conference Centre. The demonstration was part of a two day event organized by Agriculture and Agri-Foods Canada to promote Canadian food products in China. In addition to Canola Oil, Canadian grown ginseng, and Canadian beef were also featured.
August 16, 2010 - The Smile China Project and the Shanghai #9 People's Hospital sign a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a Centre of Excellence dedicated to advancing and improving surgical skills for cleft lip and palate surgery in China. The primary objective of Smile China Project, a Canadian registered charitable organization, is to provide specialized surgical, medical and health care services to children affected with facial deformities in developing areas of China. The theme of the Smile China Project and Shanghai #9 People's Hospital partnership is "In the Footsteps of Dr. Norman Bethune: Developing Surgical Excellence in China". The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding took place in the Conference Centre at the Canada Pavilion.
August 16, 2010 - Connie Smith, Protocol Officer at the Canada Pavilion, shows the Canada Pavilion Collector Card for August. The card is one in a series that will be released throughout the duration of Expo and is available as a collectable for Expo 2010 visitors. Five of the cards feature Commissioner General Mark H. August 4, 2010 - Commissioner General Mark H. Rowswell congratulates winners of the Expo Online lottery. The Canada Pavilion, in collaboration with Expo Online, the official website of Expo 2010 Shanghai, awarded eleven winners of an online contest with Canada Pavilion souvenirs and a VIP tour of the pavilion. Over 4,000 web users entered the contest for these coveted prizes.

July 29, 2010 - Research In Motion (RIM), world renowned Canadian designer and manufacturer of the BlackBerry smartphone, launches the RIM Blackberry 8910 Curve Shanghai Expo Package at the Canada Pavilion. RIM, founded in 1984 in Waterloo, Ontario, has offices in North America, the Asia Pacific, and Europe.
July 26, 2010 - Jessie Cowen, Canada Pavilion hosting staff from Ottawa, Ontario, is awarded the "Smiling Star" by the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination. She is known for making visitors to the Canada Pavilion feel welcome and informed about Canada. Like all members of the hosting staff, Ms. Cowan is multilingual and is fluent in English, French, and Mandarin. The "Smiling Star" is awarded on a monthly basis by Expo 2010 Shanghai to a hosting staff member of Expo 2010 Pavilions.
July 26, 2010 - The Canada Pavilion showcases photographic, digital, and canvas images by Canadian artists. Visitors to the Canada Pavilion view these extraordinary works in the interior spaces of the pavilion, including in the Business Centre, and along the exit corridor of the public presentation. Images by artists from every region of Canada are appreciated by the pavilion's more than 30,000 daily visitors.
July 21, 2010 - Cirque du Soleil busker style animators entertain visitors in the courtyard of the Canada Pavilion. The courtyard is an interactive space. The restaurant patio and Cirque du Soleil animators add to the vibrancy of the space and create a feeling akin to a Canadian urban public square.
July 17, 2010 - Canada's Bay of Fundy was recognized at the 2010 World Exposition in Shanghai, China on July 17, 2010, with the declaration of "Bay of Fundy Day" at the Canada Pavilion. The Bay of Fundy is Canada's remaining nominee in the global New7Wonders of Nature campaign: a worldwide quest to discover the world's new natural wonders.

June 2, 2010 - Minister Van Loan participates in the Canada-China Joint Science & Technology Committee meeting. Canada and China, in recognition of potential collaborative opportunities, signed the Canada-China science and technology (S&T) agreement in January 2007. The agreement encourages Canadian and Chinese researchers to generate new and expanded technology-based partnerships. Projects ranging from agricultural research to pharmaceutical research have been funded under the agreement.
