In May 2008, world-renowned SNC-Lavalin Inc. won a competitive process to build and dismantle the Canada Pavilion for Expo 2010, Shanghai, China, as well as operate technical aspects of the Pavilion during the Expo.

The Canada Pavilion building is shaped like a looped ribbon or a large letter “C” (as in “Canada”) and is divided into areas for the public, for entertaining special guests and for administration. There will also be a multi-function section of the Pavilion for business promotion, meetings, conferences and special events.

Construction on the Pavilion began in February 2009 and we have made good progress so far. On August 21, 2009, SNC-Lavalin celebrated 100,000 safe man hours on site.

As of September, SNC-Lavalin has completed the exterior of the three-storey steel structure and has nearly completed the full installation of the stainless steel prefabricated sandwich panels and the roof. Most of the mechanical and electrical work has been completed and SNC-Lavalin is now in the process of installing the second skin made of Canadian Red Cedar along with other interior and exterior finishes.

We plan to start installing the public presentation, designed by Cirque du Soleil, in January 2010 and we expect the Canada Pavilion to be ready for the Expo several weeks in advance of opening day on May 1, 2010.
