Expo 2010 Shanghai

Montréal will be profiled in "Urban Best Practices Area " at Expo 2010

The City of Montréal (Québec) plans to showcase its Saint-Michel Environmental Complex in the Urban Best Practices Area of the World Expo 2010 Shanghai.

The Expo invited cities around the world to submit examples of some of their best practices for inclusion in a 15 hectare display area on the Expo site. Proposals submitted had to be under the following four thematic fields:

  • Livable Cities,
  • Sustainable Urbanization,
  • Protection and Utilization of Historical Heritages, and,
  • Technological Innovation in Built Environment.

Cities could submit their projects either on their own, or in collaboration with international organizations or companies.

Originally, Expo organizers planned to choose some 30 examples for the exhibition. Due to the overwhelming number of proposals, 55 projects were chosen from around the world, to be displayed.

Congratulations to all of the winners and to the City of Montréal! The Urban Best Practices Area will offer a unique platform for Montréal to be widely acknowledged for their successful experiences in solving environmental issues.
