Tanya TagaqTanya Tagaq ( Nunavut)
In just six years, Inuk throat singer Tanya Tagaq Gillis has brought an ancient Inuit vocal game to the heights of the experimental music scene. She has collaborated with Bjork and the Kronos Quartet and toured with some of the world's leading artists. She was nominated for a JUNO Award in 2009.

Hey RosettaHey Rosetta! (Newfoundland and Labrador)
Formed in 2006, Hey Rosetta! is based in St. John's, Newfoundland. They draw a large following to their Canadian concerts and have toured in the United States, Australia, England, and France. Their debut album, Into Your Lungs (2008) was shortlisted for 2009 Polaris Music Prize, won the inaugural XM Satellite Radio Verge Music Award for Best Album, and Canadian Music Week Indie Award for Best Album.  Hey Rosetta! was recently featured in Billboard Magazine as one of the top five new Canadian bands.

Paper LionsPaper Lions (Prince Edward Island)
Paper Lions cross genres and generations with their pop-rock, folk, blues, barber shop show. Dressed in their trademark tailored suits, Paper Lions manage to allude at past eras while maintaining an unmistakably modern edge. Paper Lions have earned regional and national awards including Pop Recording of the Year from the East Coast Music Awards. Their self-titled album released in 2007 spans decades of influence and received critical acclaim across the country.

Grand DérangementGrand Dérangement (Nova Scotia)
Formed in 1998, the group Grand Dérangement hails from Baie Sainte-Marie, an Acadian region in southwest Nova Scotia. The group of four musicians and one dancer takes an eclectic musical approach, drawing inspiration from a variety of sources, including French songs, Celtic music, rock, folk and Broadway musicals. Over their 11-year career, Grand Dérangement have given 750 concerts, released five albums and won two East Coast Music Awards.

Marie-Jo ThérioMarie-Jo Thério (New Brunswick)
Marie-Jo Thério is well-known Acadian musician.  She performs throughout French Canada and has given more than 30 concerts in Paris.  In May 2006, she gave a performance during the first part of Julien Clerc's show at the Zénith in Paris.

 

Bob & BillBob & Bill (Québec)
Bob & Bill are Guy Dubuc and Marc Lessard, composers, musical arrangers and directors, with a wide level of experience in the worlds of live performance and television. Their professional achievements can attest to the diversity of their influence and interests. In July 2004, Bob & Bill collaborated with Cirque du Soleil at the International Jazz Festival of Montréal on the creation of the show "Soleil de Minuit". The show was presented to more than 200 000 people. The year 2008 marked the launch of Bob & Bill's very first album combining electronic and organic sounds. Bob & Bill were nominated three times at the 2006 l'ADISQ Gala.

Gregory CharlesGregory Charles (Québec)
Gregory Charles from Montréal is a pianist, dancer, actor, singer, radio and television host. He was among the nominees at the 2007 JUNO Awards. Charles performed on Parliament Hill at the 2007 and 2009 Canada Day celebrations.  Gregory Charles composed the song "There's a light/Cette Flamme" which is being sung by hundreds of choirs throughout Canada for the Olympic Torch Relay.

Alain LefèvreAlain Lefèvre (Québec)
Acclaimed by the international press for his breathtaking virtuosity, his sparkling playing and his outstanding personality, the great Canadian pianist Alain Lefèvre tours repeatedly worldwide, performing in prestigious venues, in recital, and with great orchestras as well as leading conductors. He revived the Concerto No.4 composed by the forgotten genius and pianist André Mathieu, which he will perform for the Opening Gala of the Canada Pavilion, with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and the young Canadian conductor and rising star, Jean-Philippe Tremblay, now leading the Orchestre de la Francophonie canadienne.

Ariane Moffat is a popular Canadian francophone singer-songwriter based in Quebec.  She has won Félix and JUNO Awards and has performed and collaborated with many artists such as Daniel Bélanger and Marc Déry.

 

Jean-Philippe TremblayJean-Philippe Tremblay (Quebec)
Jean-Philippe Tremblay has been a guest conductor for a number of orchestras in Canada and abroad including the Orchestre national de France, the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, the Philharmonic and Philharmonia of London and the National Arts Centre Orchestra.  In 2002, he received the "Prix des musiciens au Concours international de direction d'orchestre Dimitris Mitropoulos (Grèce)."  

Albert F. MoritzThe Blue Metropolis Translation Slam (Quebec)
The Blue Metropolis Translation Slam at Expo 2010 presents Canadian poet, A.F. Moritz, reading one of his poems and two Mandarin translators, Yu Shi and Lien Chao, reading their independent translations of his work. With the assistance of a bilingual host, Yan Liang, the event is interactive and fun for both participants and the audience. Because the translations are created independently and are invariably very different, the Slam is an ideal way to highlight the art of literary translation and the difference each translator makes.

Radio-Canada is proud to present Frédéric Back, world renowned animator, at Expo 2010 Shanghai. Mr. Back joined Radio-Canada in 1952, soon after completing a Fine Arts degree in Alsace, France. He began his career in the title department, but was soon seen adding drawings to the letterings of titles. His supervisors discovered his talent and made him illustrator for the department. Each step of the show is fraught with new challenges, but for every problem there is a solution - Except, Jamie's solutions tends to be a bit unusual.

Bedouin SoundclashBedouin Soundclash (Ontario)
Bedouin Soundclash is a Canadian ska/reggae band from Toronto. They started as a college band at Queen's University in Kingston. Their sound can be described as a mix of reggae, rock, punk and soul. Some influences frequently cited by the band are The Police, The Clash and Bob Marley. The 2005 sophomore release Sounding a Mosaic exploded onto commercial radio and video stations across Canada with the hit single "When the Night Feels My Song." The band won Best New Group or Solo Artist at the Canadian Radio Music Awards 2006, and a JUNO for New Group of the Year in 2006.

Having nurtured a solid reputation at home for captivating music and energetic performances, Eugene Draw inspires kudos wherever he goes. Dr. Draw's musical repertoire incorporates many different elements such as rock, pop, classical, electronica, fusion, world and new funk. This violinist recently made indie music history in Toronto as all three of his albums charted on the official top 30 Nielsen Soundscan sales charts twice on the same year, including the number 3 position for his latest CD Adagio.

Saxophonist Mark DeJong has performed throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Japan, and he has shared the stage with celebrated artists such as Ray Charles, Rob McConnell, Lenny Pickett, Hugh Fraser, Kenny Wheeler, and Sean Jones. Mark is active as a performer, composer, clinician, and educator throughout North America. His music is eclectic, energetic, and captivating. 

Kreesha TurnerKreesha Turner (Alberta)
Kreesha Turner is a popular Canadian R&B/Pop Recording artist from Alberta.  In March 2009, at the Radio Music Awards in Toronto, Kreesha Turner received the Best New Group/Solo Artist (Rhythmic/Dance/Urban) awards.  Kreesha was also nominated for two JUNO Awards: New Artist of the Year and Pop Album of the Year.

Shane YellowbirdShane Yellowbird (Alberta)
Shane Yellowbird is a Canadian country music singer/songwriter from Hobbema, Alberta. In 2007, Shane was named the "Aboriginal Entertainer of the Year" at the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards, the "Chevy Trucks Rising Star of the Year" at the Canadian Country Music Awards, and had one of the 10 most played country music songs of the year in Canada in 2007.  His most recent album released in 2009 is It's About Time.  He has performed at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville in the United States.

This company is an Aboriginal dance collective from the Northwest coast of British Columbia. They are of the Royal Dakhumhast House of the Gitksan Nation. Their masked dances are thousands of years old and the lyrics in the songs retell the chronological development and way of life of their peoples. These high energy performances include dances in button blanket regalia that are used to welcome visitors to a feast, as well as reenact important events in their history.

Founded in 2005 by its present Artistic Director, Josh Beamish, MOVE: the company is a contemporary dance group committed to the creation and performance of original choreographic works by both emerging and established artists. 

Jets OverheadJets Overhead (British Columbia)
Jets Overhead has mesmerized crowds at home and abroad with their hypnotic take on ambient rock. The band was nominated for a Juno Award (Canadian Grammy equivalent) for New Group of the Year in 2007, and has recently released their second album - NO NATIONS - on Neil Young's Vapor Records. Jets Overhead made their debut appearance in China in 2009 as part of the TransmitChina festival, playing to sold-out audiences in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.
