Canada Pavilion Trade Program

Canada's theme for Expo 2010, The Living City: inclusive, sustainable, creative is reflected in the multi-sector trade program unfolding at the Canada Pavilion's second floor conference centre. Building on objectives of trade, investment, and innovation, Canadian business showcases opportunities for expanding economic ties with Chinese counterparts. Senior Canadian policy makers, entrepreneurs, and innovators lead presentations and discussions that include innovative Canadian solutions to challenges common to dynamic urban centres.

Invest in Canada

Canada is a global destination for doing business. The 2009 IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook ranked Canada first amongst G7 countries in terms of the ease of conducting business. Furthermore, the Economist Intelligence Unit in its 2009 report named Canada as the #1 place to do business in the G7 for the next five years. China, already Canada's second largest trade partner, is aware of the Canadian advantage. Canadian government, including federal, provincial, and municipal representatives are resources for information on investment opportunities and on establishing North American based operations for Chinese investors and entrepreneurs. Seminars at the Canada Pavilion provide detailed information on doing business in Canada and on completing investment in Canada.

Research and Technology Opportunities

Did you know Canada is ranked second among the G7 and 4th among 134 nations for the quality of its scientific research? Canadian inventions, including the telephone and the BlackBerry® connect the world.

Canada and China, in recognition of potential collaborative opportunities, signed the Canada-China science and technology (S&T) agreement in January 2007. The agreement encourages Canadian and Chinese researchers to generate new and expanded technology-based partnerships. Projects ranging from agricultural research to pharmaceutical research have been funded under the agreement. The trade program at the Canada Pavilion includes representatives from world leading Canadian companies in sectors ranging from renewable energy, life sciences, and ICT, to discuss opportunities for collaboration with Chinese counterparts.

Experiencing the Canadian urban pulse

Art, culture and education are the keystones to a sustainable living city. Creativity through artistic expression leads to innovation and economic prosperity. Education institutions and cultural organizations are key participants in the Canada Pavilion trade program and present information on studying in Canada and on the sharing of art and culture in Canada.
